Week 1 1st 6 weeks August 20th - August 23rd- Lab Safety and Classroom Procedures
This week we will be looking at classroom procedures and lab safety. One of the lab station activities will include locating and using various types of lab safety equipment located in the classroom.
Week 2 - August 26th - August 30th - The 3 types of lab investigations
This week we will look at the 3 types of lab investigations: Descriptive, Comparative, and Experimental Design. Students will perform activities for each type of investigation. Students will be familiar with the terms observation, inference, hypothesis, independent variable, dependent variable, and constant.
Week 3 - September 3rd - September 6th (The Periodic Table - Atoms, Molecules, Elements, Compounds)
This week we will explore the periodic table and discuss atoms, molecules, elements, and compounds. Students will determine the total number of atoms in various element molecules and compounds.
Week 4 - September 9th - September 13th ( Levels of Organization)
This week students will recognize the levels of organization in plants and animals including cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, and organisms. Students will also begin recognizing the various organelles in animal and plant cells along with their functions.
Week 5 - September 16th - September 20th (Organelles)
This Week students will differentiate between the structures and functions of the various organelles in animal and plant cells. Students will perform a lab activity where they build a plant and animal cell model. Students will be familiar with the nucleus, cell membrane, cell wall, cytoplasm, mitochondria, and vacuoles in animal and plant cells.
Week 1 / 2nd 6 wks - September 23rd - Sept. 27th( Cell structures and function)
This week students will continue to recognize the structures and and functions of organelles in both plant and animal cells. Students will create posters of plant cells with their organelles and functions.
